BGCNW in the News!

On January 8, 2024, WPIX 11 News reporter Ben Allen featured the Club’s Learn-to-Swim program in 3 live spots on his morning series Ben Around Town! Ready in his swim trunks, Ben joined our preschool classes in the pool for their twice-weekly swimming classes and even received a lesson from Assistant Director of Aquatics and Head swim instructor, Bob Rishel, who has been with the Club since 1992.

“Water safety is so essential, but also, it’s just important to be able to have a physical activity that’s fun. You can see how comfortable these kids are and how much fun they’re having, and it’s a special opportunity that most organizations like Boys & Girls Club’s can’t provide because they don’t have pools.” Head Swim Coach for the Marlins Swim Team told Ben.

Our Club is unique in that, not only do we have a pool, but we are the only early childhood education program in Westchester to offer swim lessons as part of the curriculum. Our little ones enter kindergarten with the basic skills to be water safe. We also offer once weekly swim lessons, in 6 week units, to our school-aged members enrolled in the Afterschool Fun Club program.

Learn-to-Swim classes are available to the public for children as young as 6-months; in our Parent and Me program; up to 14 years of age. In addition, the Club is home to the Marlins Swim Team, a competitive athletic program for youth ages 6 to 18. The Marlins team are 23-year Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) National Swim Champions and 2-time recipients of USA Swimming Bronze Medal status. In September of 2023, coach Zac and Head Age Group Coach, Connor White, were awarded the well deserved USA Swimming Metro Swimming Senior Coach of the Year, and Must Watch Age Group Coach of the Year, respectively!
